About the Role
SUMMARY: The Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor ensures high-quality clinical care aligned with the mission of Paws and Stripes by leading clinical quality strategies, meeting benchmarks for quality and productivity, and overseeing all therapeutic services, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy. This role manages and supervises mental health and case management staff, ensuring adherence to clinical practice protocols and performance measures while providing ongoing clinical staff development, case conferencing, and training. The Supervisor collaborates with program leaders on program development and planning, establishes and reviews treatment plans as needed, and works with agency leadership to implement a seamless array of therapeutic services within the organization and the community. Reporting to the Director of Programs, this position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of Paws and Stripes’ mental health services.
Requirements
1. Supervise and oversee all aspects of the clinical operations of Paws and Stripes mental health in alignment with the agency mission and strategic plan.
Measures of Success:
A. Collaborates with the Program Director and clinical staff to set and evaluate programmatic clinical goals, fostering a team-based approach for input and discussion.
B. Evaluate, adjust, and refine clinical services to effectively meet client needs.
C. Ensure full compliance with clinical deliverables by adhering to federal and state laws, licensing regulations, and public and private funding requirements.
D. Develop, implement, and monitor corrective action plans to address program performance and clinical staff effectiveness.
E. Collaborate with leadership to ensure a cohesive, integrated system of care for clients.
F. Collaborate with Leadership to oversee and manage the implementation, execution, and ongoing procedures for insurance billing of services.
2. Provide clinical supervision and guidance to clinical staff and interns.
Measures of Success:
A. Lead and manage clinical staff by overseeing recruitment, retention, mentoring, coaching, and supervision to ensure engagement and alignment with organizational and departmental clinical goals. Uphold ethical standards in accordance with the Code of Ethics.
B. Provide or delegate clinical supervision for individual and group sessions involving non-independently licensed providers and behavioral health interns, maintaining proper documentation for audit compliance.
C. Conduct regular case staffing sessions with behavioral health providers and case managers to ensure high-quality client care.
D. Monitor and support staff in meeting independent licensing requirements based on New Mexico Board of Behavioral Health Licensing regulations.
E. Stay current with all required training necessary for clinical supervision and licensure renewal.
F. Seek external clinical supervision on an ongoing basis to enhance professional development and ensure best practices.
G. Maintain a limited caseload to provide direct client services while fulfilling supervisory responsibilities.
3. Ensure timely, professional, and accurate completion of all clinical reporting requirements.
Measures of Success:
A. Establish and oversee a structured review process to ensure staff maintain accurate and compliant record documentation, setting clear guidelines and maintaining records of all reviews.
B. Support agency licensing and accreditation processes related to mental health, directing the implementation of clinical behavioral health policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
C. Lead and participate in quality assurance evaluations, ensuring program staff understand and engage in required Paws and Stripes activities, while actively contributing to performance improvement monitoring.
D. Ensure organizational compliance with HIPAA regulations and safeguard the protection of Protected Health Information (PHI).
4. Participates in community networking and outreach activities
Measures of Success:
A. Stay informed about behavioral health requirements, community resources, new programs, and relevant training opportunities, ensuring staff receive timely updates.
B. Participate in professional development training, including those focused on mental healthcare for Veterans and their loved ones, to enhance program services and support the community effectively.
5. Supports the organization as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES The following factors are essential to this position and to minimally qualify, applicants must provide evidence that they possess these required factors.
Professional expertise in clinical social work or counseling.
Strong understanding of program planning concepts, principles, and best practices for developing and maintaining an integrated care system that supports client needs.
Knowledge of clinical program oversight requirements, ensuring compliance and quality service delivery.
Awareness of the cultural, social, and economic backgrounds of diverse populations, with an understanding of how cultural values and beliefs impact health outcomes.
Ability to establish program goals, evaluate progress, and implement improvements to achieve objectives.
Expertise in providing clinical guidance, support, and mentorship to professional staff in areas of specialization.
Competence in managing program site operations to ensure efficient service delivery and effective communication.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create reports, develop documentation, and deliver presentations.
Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and proactively address concerns to achieve desired outcomes.
Capacity to establish rapport and build trust with program staff, clients, and stakeholders.
Proficiency in computer-based applications, including MS Office 365, Adobe, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling required.
Must hold an independent licensure in New Mexico as a Social Worker or Counselor.
Registration as a Clinical Supervisor with the New Mexico Credentialing Board for Behavioral Health Professionals required, with ongoing maintenance of CEU requirements for both licensure and clinical supervision.
CCSS Certification preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience providing clinical supervision to staff required.
Experience working with underserved populations.
Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Must successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is performed at a desk/computer screen for extended periods of time in a traditional office environment.
Work requires use of a computer and computer software to enter data.
Work is performed in a highly active environment with exposure to a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and diverse employee and client population.
Daily exposure to dogs in the office environment should be expected.
Position may require the occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
